The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) is holding a Public Information Meeting for the proposed SC 24 (West Oak Highway) Rural Roads Traffic Safety Improvement Project. Due to health and safety concerns, the meeting will be offered online as well as in person.


The In-person meeting with the project team will be offered on Tuesday, May 4, 2021 from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Westminster First Baptist Church Family Life Center located at 426 West Oak Highway, Westminster, SC 29693. The Public Information Meeting will have displays and handouts for viewing, and citizens will have the opportunity to provide written comments. Project information, including meeting displays and handouts, will also be available on the project website at beginning April 27, 2021. This site will also provide citizens an opportunity to provide comments. The Public Comment period will begin on April 27, 2021 and end on May 26, 2021.



The purpose of the Rural Road Safety Program is to improve safety on South Carolina's rural roadways through engineering solutions identified to reduce the frequency of fatal and serious injury crashes occurring on these roadways. The termini of the proposed SC 24 (West Oak Highway) Rural Roads Traffic Safety Improvement Project is from S-429 (Greenfield Road) to near S-58 (Fairplay Road) in Oconee County. The project scope will include various engineering solutions such as widening and paving of shoulders, wider and brighter pavement markings, rumble stripes, improved clear zone, and additional guardrail to reduce the frequency of fatal and serious injury run-off-the-road crashes.

The purpose of this meeting is to provide an opportunity to review, discuss and provide comments on the proposed SC 24 Rural Roads Safety Project with representatives from the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT). Another purpose of the meeting is to gather information from the public or any interested organization on historic or cultural resources in the area.



Participants can provide written comments in the following ways:

Comments will be accepted through May 26, 2021. All formal comments received during the comment period will be considered and included in the project record.
