City of Westminster Water System Inventory

July 25, 2024

For Immediate Release:
City of Westminster Requests Water Customer Connecting Pipe Information

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is requiring the City of Westminster (and other water systems) to inventory the water system and its types of connecting pipes. If water customers know what type of pipe runs between their meter and house (PVC, Galvanized Steel, Copper, etc.) please let us know. Customers can call Chris Todd at 864-647-3233, or email Trace Nix at tnix@westminstersc.org. Please provide your name, address, and connection type. The City hopes to gather the information by the end of September.

Your cooperation helps ensure the City water system operates at the highest level. Additional information about the EPA’s requirements can be found below:

“On December 16, 2021, EPA announced next steps to strengthen the regulatory framework on lead in drinking water. Following the agency’s review of the Lead and Copper Rule Revisions (LCRR) under Executive Order 13990, EPA has concluded that there are significant opportunities to improve the rule to support the overarching goal of proactively removing lead service lines and more equitably protecting public health.”

“In a Federal Register Notice, EPA announced that the LCRR will go into effect to support near term development of actions to reduce lead in drinking water. At the same time, EPA will develop a new proposed rulemaking to strengthen key elements of the rule. The agency anticipates finalizing the forthcoming Lead and Copper Rule Improvements (LCRI) prior to October 16, 2024, the initial compliance date in the LCRR.”  –Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), December 2021
