Hurricane Helene: Westminster Recovery

Hurricane Helene brought heavy rain, strong winds, and significant flooding to the Upstate of South Carolina, including Oconee County.

The City has made substantial progress in debris removal and electric service restoration. Roadways in the City of Westminster are open and passable. Drivers should still exercise caution as there may also be smaller debris or piles on the shoulders of roads. Any remaining road blockages in the city should be reported to 864-647-3200.

The City of Westminster has made substantial progress in restoring power to most its electric customers. Power has been restored to all major circuits. We estimate that we are down to around 10individual customers still without electricity, and hope to complete individual connections early this week.

The City of Westminster Public Works Department has lifted the Boil Water advisory for all water customers. The advisory was in place for in the following areas—Coffee Road, Long Creek Highway (north of Coffee Road), Welcome Church Road, Unity Church Road, Burton Memorial Drive, and surrounding areas. Water operations have resumed as normal systemwide.

The Chauga River Bridger on Long Creek Highway is closed. This bridge is outside of City limits, and the City will follow the lead of SCDOT and USDOT. The Westminster Fire Department is coordinating with the Long Creek, Holly Springs, and Cleveland Fire Departments to continue to provide seamless mutual-aid fire support.

Anderson Park is closed due to damaged trees until further notice.
